Considering The Force Awakens featured a shocking death of a beloved character, The Last Jedi could feature the demise of anyone, either new or familiar to the franchise. During an interview at Star Wars Celebration, John Boyega confirmed he will appear 2019’s Episode IX.

When speaking with Steele Wars, Boyega was asked about the experience of sharing the stage with actors who got their start in the Star Wars saga 40 years ago and if he thinks about how he might be on stage at a Celebration in 20 or 30 years.

Boyega explained how little he is told about his own character’s future, but revealed that he has signed on for Episode IX, although it’s unclear in what capacity.

Finn was last seen in rough shape following his showdown with Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens, but based on the teaser for The Last Jedi, it looks as though he’ll be on the road to recovery, proving it takes more than being slashed in the back by a lightsaber to stop him.

However, signing on for the film doesn’t necessarily mean Finn will survive The Last Jedi, as he could film scenes that will serve as flashbacks.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi, from writer/director Rian Johnson, is in post-production now for a December 15, 2017 release. The film follows-up and continues the story of the next generation of the saga as Rey, Poe, Finn, and Kylo Ren find their place in the galaxy and follow the legacy of Luke Skywalker, Leia, and Han Solo. Daisy Ridley returns to star as Rey, with other returning stars John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Peter Mayhew, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Lupita Nyong’o Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa. Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern join the cast in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
