Lucasfilm is putting the finishing touches on Star Wars: The Last Jedi to prepare for the film’s release at the end of the year, which includes John Williams recording what is sure to be another memorable score. Stars Mark Hamill and Laura Dern dropped by the recording session, along with writer/director Rian Johnson, to witness the masterful Williams at work.

Dern, Hamill, and Johnson attending the recording doesn’t give us any hints at what to expect from the score, but demonstrates that they are just as big of fans of the music as they are integral components of the filmmaking process.
On Twitter, Hamill revealed that the music gave him “goosebumps,” while Dern called it the “Best day ever” while referring to the experience as “cinema history.”
It’s possible that, once recording the music, the film could still undergo some edits that will result in musical cues being cut, but this step in the post production process hints that the film could be nearing completion.
It’s hard to understate the legacy that Williams has in the industry, having scored some of the most successful films of all time, including Jaws, Jurassic Park, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and the Harry Potter films.
Considering how Williams and his music are intrinsically linked to the Star Wars saga, it’s hard to believe the studio originally wanted a much hipper ’70s-influenced disco-sounding score, but only through George Lucas’ urging, opted for the Williams score.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi lands in theaters December 15.
