Ever since Ahsoka Tano debuted as Anakin Skywalker’s companion in the first animated series on Cartoon Network, she quickly carved her way (with dual-wielded lightsabers) into the hearts of many, and in the second season of Star Wars Rebels she may have met her fate in a heartbreaking confrontation with her former master.

But after a massive tease given at Star Wars Celebration earlier this year, Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni just revealed a scene that didn’t make the cut from an episode in the second season which hints at the character’s ultimate fate while referencing other similar confrontations from franchise lore.

Filoni’s tweet shows an image of Ahsoka meeting with Bendu before she heads to Malachor with Ezra and Kanan. While she inevitably faces Darth Vader and takes a seemingly fatal plunge in that battle, never to be seen again, this scene adds a layer of context and complexity to the interaction.

Bendu, a being one with and balancing both Light and Dark sides of the Force, gives the former Padawan some fateful advice.

Bendu: You are set on this confrontation then?
Ahsoka: I have to know the truth.
Bendu: So be it, but understand this, much will change as a result of this encounter, including you.
Ahsoka: Isn’t that true of all things, as time advances?
Bendu: My dear, when I say change, I mean death.
Ahsoka: So I will die?
Bendu: Will you? I didn’t know that. Goodbye then, Ahsoka Tano, former Jedi Knight.

It’s a loaded exchange between two Force-sensitive beings that could hint at a possibly tragic fate for Ahsoka.

Then again, its exclusion from the final cut of the Star Wars Rebels episode might have more positive implications for the character.

Hopefully we’ll learn more when Star Wars Rebels returns for Season 4 later this fall.

Having established a secret base on Atollon, the Ghost crew, now led by a more powerful Ezra, strengthens the Rebel fleet by acquiring new resources and recruits eager to stand against the Empire. However, the Imperial efforts to eliminate the Rebellion are now being led by the coldly analytical Grand Admiral Thrawn, whose strategic, tactical and cultural insights make him a threat unlike any they have faced before. Ezra and Sabine must take on new roles and challenges as the Rebels prepare for their biggest mission yet โ€“ a direct assault on the Empire.
