A new deleted scene from Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released online today via EW, featuring Rey and Chewbacca in an encounter with Unkar Plutt. The clip takes place in Maz Kanata’s fortress bar, and its easy to see how it would feel incredibly out-of-place in the final film, leading to its cut.

The idea behind the clip is that Unkar Plutt (Simon Pegg) tracks down the Millennium Falcon – and Rey – to the planet of Takodana. He confronts Rey there for “stealing” the Falcon (which he stole, after it was stolen…), teling her she’s in a lot of trouble. When she points her blaster in his face, he disarms her and gets even angrier… until he suddenly has to deal with a Wookiee. Yeah, Chewbacca gets into the argument and takes the blaster from Plutt, but Plutt proceeds by just poking the bear (literally, poking his injured arm), escalating the situation further.
While the clip ends there online, on the 3D Collector’s Edition Blu-Ray of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, you’ll be able to see the rest of the argument. It ends as most fights in a Cantina do – with someone losing an arm. It’s a moment fans have heard teased before “he’ll tear your arms off,” and we’ve seen in comic books, but not on screen. Ah, well, at least there’s the new blu-ray.
The additional deleted scenes is one of the added bits of value enticing fans to buy the 3D edition of the film even if they already bought it on blu-ray earlier this year. In addition to new deleted scenes, the package includes director’s commentary from J.J. Abrams, the theatrical cut on 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, Digital HD, and DVD, plus all the original special features from the initial release of the movie.
The newest version of Star Wars: The Force Awakens to come home hits the US on November 15, 2016, but starts international releases on October 31.
