Earlier this month, the Star Wars fandom had a weekend of reckoning when Lucasfilm dropped a slew of new information about its upcoming movie line-up. This December, Star Wars: The Last Jedi will make its way into theaters and follow Rey directly after she made contact with Luke Skywalker on Ach-To. Over the past week or so, reports have surfaced about Luke’s emotional state after having been self-exiled on the island for so long. And, if one new rumor is right, then fans might get to see a particularly emotional reunion between Luke and his former friends.

The noted fan-site Making Star Wars recently published a report which details the rumor in question. Editor-In-Chief Jason Ward said his sources informed him that Luke’s journey in The Last Jedi will be fraught with emotion.
“Speaking of Chewbacca, I’ve also heard that Luke’s journey is rather emotional in The Last Jedi, and there’s a beautiful moment where he is reunited with Chewbacca and Artoo-Detoo. We’re going to see Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, and Artoo together again and then Luke is going to train Rey like Yoda trained him but with his own “spin on it.” I think Luke’s reluctance to train Rey is wholly different than Yoda’s reluctance about Luke being the right candidate,” Ward wrote.
“Luke will tell Rey about her true connection to the Force and what it means. It is also Rey that brings this non-blood family together again in the wake of the tragedy of losing Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It really makes you think about how much blood lines don’t matter as much as the families we make.”
However, according to Daisy Ridley, the star says Rey isn’t all too impressed with Luke when she first meets the recluse. During a talk with MTV, the actress said Rey is letdown by the man she meets on Ach-To, but the older Jedi may soften a bit should he reunite with the likes of Chewbacca and R2-D2.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi, from writer/director Rian Johnson, is in post-production now for a December 15, 2017 release. The film follows-up and continues the story of the next generation of the saga as Rey, Poe, Finn, and Kylo Ren find their place in the galaxy and follow the legacy of Luke Skywalker, Leia, and Han Solo. Daisy Ridley returns to star as Rey, with other returning stars John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Peter Mayhew, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Lupita Nyong’o Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa. Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern join the cast in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the next Lucasfilm movie on the calendar, set to release December 15.
