A couple of weeks ago, some fans noticed that stores were beginning to sell merchandise for Star Wars: The Last Jedi ahead of the Force Friday II event. One of those items was a Funko POP! Vinyl figured featuring a new droid called the “Resistance BB Unit.”
The quality of the photo was bad so some of the finer details were hard to make out, though it appeared to have a unique headpiece unlike BB-8‘s and the First Order’s BB-9E.

Now we have a clear look at the new units thanks to the Sphere app for the Bluetooth-controlled droids. And you can also see the droids in the latest Star Wars Blips video right here.
The app allows fans to play unlock new information with the Augmented Reality mode, and one of the new pieces of information reveals the names and details about BB-8’s droid allies in the Resistance. Check out the screen cap below.
BB-2 and BB-4, BB Units
BB units can be seen rolling about on capital ships and hangar bays. They are also seen socketed into X-wing fighters, ready to aid in the fight against the First Order. These Droids help keep vessels and weapons in top shape and ready for combat.
We know more about BB-8’s role in the new movie and how he’ll be contributing to the Resistance’s war efforts against the First Order, and we’ve heard rumblings about what BB-9E’s role in the new movie will be.
But these two droids are kind of a mystery at this point. Will they feature heavily into the plot of Star Wars: The Last Jedi? Or are they simply given names as nearly every character, creature, and droid in the Star Wars Universe does no matter how little they factor into the storyline?
Hopefully we learn more about these two new BB units as we approach the release date of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, premiering in theaters on December 15.
