The Walking Dead is charging towards it All Out War storyline which will see Rick rallying multiple communities to battle Negan and his Saviors. After a full season was spent building up towards the fan-favorite story from Robert Kirkman’s comics, the AMC series will finally go to war when it returns in the fall.

All of the build, however, may have provided The Walking Dead‘s sibling series Fear the Walking Dead to beat the older sibling to the punch.
With a new episode set to air on Sunday night which will see series leader Madison (Kim Dickens) revealing to southern United States location that a Native American group is ready to lay claim to their Broke Jaw Ranch land, war is not very far. The entire community of Broke Jaw Ranch has their work cut out for them as they ready themselves for a terrifying and well-equipped threat.
To top things off, the initial introduction of this new group on Fear the Walking Dead came with a major character’s shocking death. Much like Negan killed Abraham and Glenn to start The Walking Dead‘s seventh season, Fear the Walking Dead took Travis out with a stray bullet as he traveled in a helicopter. In the “Burning in Water, Drowning in Flame” episode, the series revealed this Native American bunch lead by Walker to be responsible.

However, Fear the Walking Dead has shown something this season which fans of The Walking Dead have been trained not to expect: characters who appear to be potential short term villains and threats for the protagonists of Fear have turned into allies. None have shown such a transformation more than Troy Otto. The character appeared to be another Governor-like character existing in the Dead universe until he took an unexpected liking to Madison Clark and her son Nick. His dark, twisted view of the world makes him hard for fans to agree with but his do-what-is-necessary-to-survive attitude forces characters and fans to give him another chance.
Fear the Walking Dead has an opportunity to do something similar with Walker. By similar, that can mean turning this Native American bunch into an unexpected ally. However, it also means the series can do something unexpected which has never been done before. The introduction of Negan on The Walking Dead came under te expectations of going to war. When the Governor, came around, fans anxiously anticipated the battles between Woodbury and the prison. This is all, in part, because the grand scheme of The Walking Dead‘s story has already been laid out in comics, but also because of how many times such a story has been repeated over the course of seven seasons.
Either Fear the Walking Dead will introduce an unexpected twist with Walker and the Native American group or the characters are going to war to defend Broke Jaw Ranch. Given that the series has not aired half of its third season yet, it’s safe to assume that a war would begin prior to the season finale.
It sounds, however, like the war is the most likely outcome of this storyline.
“Am I going to defend [Broke Jaw Ranch]? Yeah,” Jeremiah Otto actor Dayton Callie said. “It’s like you own a house, you going to defend it? Yeah you’re going to defend it. If you can if you’re capable. I’m hoping we’re capable. I got to get the other idiots to believe in it.”
