At the end of last week’s penultimate episode, The Walking Dead revealed that Dwight was showing his true face, and coming to Rick as a potential ally. Since he has no one left to protect, Dwight is ready to rid the world of Negan once and for all. In the preview for the finale, he tells Rick he wants to see Negan dead.
As you’d expect, Rick doesn’t exactly trust Dwight yet. When you think about it, you can’t really blame him. Dwight has been one of the biggest villains to the group so far, so it would have to be incredibly difficult to trust the guy.

However, Dwight’s aid could be exactly what Rick needs to win the war. The offer is just too good to pass up.
So, how can Dwight actually help Rick? Here’s a few ideas.
Kill Negan Himself
Dwight can’t just slit Negan’s throat in his sleep, because that would bring the entire Sanctuary down on him. Negan is also fairly smart, so he would read that kind of situation before it happened.
However, Rick can help create a situation where that’s possible. Whether it’s in the middle of a battle, or if Rick sets up a private meeting and leaves a trap in the hands of Dwight, there is an opportunity here.
Dwight Leads Rick Inside
If Rick wants to take Negan out, he may have to go straight into the heart of the Sanctuary.
If Rick can begin some kind of problem, Dwight could convince Negan to send plenty of Saviors to deal with it. While the home is a bit on the empty side, Dwight would lead Rick straight to Negan.
This would be quick, clean, and the Saviors wouldn’t know what happened until they returned.
A Slow Process
In what seems like the most likely scenario, Dwight will take his time. Just as it happened in the comics, the war will unfold over time.
With every strategic meeting, Dwight will simultaneously gain more of Negan’s trust, while putting Rick in a better position to kill him.
The guy is playing a game of chess here, and he could come out victorious if he has the patience to pull off the long con.
