Spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 5 follow.

The Go Getters episode of The Walking Dead‘s seventh season was a slow build to what promises to be an explosive last couple of episodes. While some of the storylines will have to wait a couple of weeks to pay off (as Sunday’s new episode is Tara Chambler-centric), the lead-up has been filled with hidden Easter Eggs and references.

In fact, this entire season of The Walking Dead has been loaded with Easter Eggs and references to prior seasons. We had Shane Walsh mentioned by name but also memories of him indirectly dropped earlier in the Service episode almost two weeks ago, along with many other moments like it.

On the following slides, we’ll run through a few Easter Eggs from the Go Getters episode of The Walking Dead.

Carl in the Truck

The most exciting moment for hardcore fans of The Walking Dead from Sunday’s Go Getters episode was Carl finally hopping in the back of the Saviors’ truck and setting out for the Sanctuary.

The moment was ripped straight from the pages of The Walking Dead comics.

In the comics, Carl hides out in the back of a truck, armed with a machine gun and hungry for vengeance. Upon arriving at the Sanctuary, he guns down a handful of Saviors before being caught and taken in by Negan. Negan, however, doesn’t kill little Grimes. Instead, he manipulates him by removing his eye patch and forcing him to sing a song.

What’s interesting is the fact that Jesus is also in that truck with Carl. This didn’t happen in the comics.

Comic Cover

Maggie mourning Glenn’s grave with a little girl was ripped straight from a cover of The Walking Dead comics.

Of course, we say “little girl” because it was a different character in the books. On the cover of issue #109, Maggie and Sophia huddle over Glenn’s grave, saddened by their recent loss at the hands of Negan.

On television, the moment was realized between Maggie and Enid, seeing as Sophia has long been dead on the AMC series. Enid seems to be filling out Sophia’s comic book story line quite nicely, seeing as she was all but adopted by Maggie Rhee by the end of Go Getters.

Green Balloons

This may not have been so hidden that you missed it but we would be willing to bet some viewers forgot the significance of the green balloons.

Enid left green balloons on Abraham’s grave, meaning to leave them on Glenn’s, not because they are symbolic of release according to Jesus but because of her experience with Glenn. While the two characters were left outside of Alexandria during the horde’s attack, they blew up green balloons which Glenn would later use to let Maggie know he was coming back.

It’s a subtle touching rememberance of a fan favorite character.

The Necklace

In Go Getters, Sasha was given Abraham’s necklace by Jesus. Jesus found it after Abraham’s scuffle with members of the Hilltop during the group’s first trip.

For those who may have forgotten, Rosita was the one who gave Abraham the necklace while the two of them lay in bed back in Season 6. Of course, Abraham ended up leaving Rosita in favor of a relationship with Sasha before the season came to a close and would lose his head to start Season 7.

Sasha elected not to keep the necklace, though she likely was unaware of its roots. It was made of a broken tail light.

Maggie’s Poem

Maggie’s poem at dinner was one from Ralph Waldo Emerson called, “We Thank Thee.”

For this new morning with its light,

Father, we thank Thee.

For rest and shelter of the night,

Father, we thank Thee

For health and food, for love and friends,

For everything Thy goodness sends,

Father in heaven, we thank Thee.

The poem was likely instilled upon Maggie from her highly moraled father, Hershel, who died in Season 4 of The Walking Dead.ย
