The Walking Dead: Greg Nicotero Definitively Rules On Jesus And Daryl Romance Possibilities

The Walking Dead has left the sexuality of Daryl Dixon slightly vague through six and a half seasons. There has been little reason to suspect he has any preference over another as the character has never become romantically involved with another throughout the show’s run.

During a panel aboard the 2017 Walker Stalker Cruise, the character’s sexuality remained ambiguous but executive producer Greg Nicotero made a definitive ruling against one particular character’s chances with Daryl.

After being asked what the possibilities of seeing an “awkward moment” between Daryl Dixon and Paul “Jesus” Rovia on The Walking Dead, Nicotero was firm on his response.

“No!” Nicotero said. “There can’t be enough exclamation points after that no.”

While Nicotero, who directs this weekend’s returning episode as well as two beyond it in the back half of Season 7, is completely against the Jesus/Daryl love duo, Reedus is game for anything, telling the crowd he is “up for whatever.”

The small crowd rooting for a Daryl and Jesus connection have been shut down but that larger group holding out for the Carol and Daryl romance are in luck.

As it goes in the comics, Jesus develops a bit of a relationship with Aaron long after Eric is no longer in the picture. As for Daryl, the character has never existed in the comics so his future is more unpredictable. He may, however, adopt an epic pet in the near future according to Nicotero’s teases.

“In terms of [Daryl’s] availability for a love interest, we’ll check on that,” Nicotero said.

The Walking Dead returns for the rest of its seventh season on February 12 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
