‘The Walking Dead’: Lennie James And Jeffrey Dean Morgan Just Teased Morgan’s Death

The writing may be on the wall for Morgan in The Walking Dead‘s eighth season.

In The Walking Dead‘s Season 8 trailer, Morgan Jones says the words no character on the series should ever say: “I don’t die.” It’s basically the equivalent of having a death wish in the apocalyptic setting. During a Season 8 preview special which aired on AMC on Sunday night, Morgan actor Lennie James addressed the line with Negan actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan teasing how bad of an idea it may have been.

“It doesn’t matter what my reaction to it is,” James said. “The fans’ reactions and my kids’ reaction to it is, ‘Daddy, does that mean you’re dead?’”

Reading the line and knowing the history of The Walking Dead, James understands where the worry comes from and might be a little worried for the character, himself. “In this show, you fall in love, you have a really good idea, or someone calls you the moral compass – you’re dead,” James said. “You’re dead.”

Quickly, Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick joined in to agree with James who points out that moral compasses rarely last on The Walking Dead. Every time a character points out what is right to Rick Grimes, they die soon after…

“‘I don’t die’ is probably not the best plan,” Morgan added to the conversation, possibly teasing Morgan being a victim of the upcoming All Out War story.

Morgan Jones has already outlived his comic book counterpart by a considerable margin. This makes the character who recently broke his “all life is precious” creed a wildcard in terms of fate but also the most likely remaining Season 1 character to bow out during the war.

The Walking Dead‘s sibling series Fear the Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 pm ET on AMC. The Walking Dead will return for its eighth season on October 22, 2017.
