The Walking Dead Showrunner Reveals If Morgan Will Kill Himself

The Walking Dead‘s Bury Me Here saw Morgan joins reach a breaking point which almost put him in the same place as his buddy Benjamin.

As viewers saw on Sunday night, the aikedo practicing pacificist killed Richard to serve Ben justice but not before holding a knife to his wrist over a grave and contemplating suicide. Morgan is clearly unstable mentally and many fans of the AMC series are left wondering if he would ever follow through with killing himself, likely hoping he kills countless Saviors instead.

Showrunner Scott Gimple weighed in on the debate during Sunday night’s Talking Dead episode.

“He can’t,” Gimple said. “He doesn’t have the ability to. He’s stuck. He tries but he can’t. It’s something within him. It’s difficult to explain. He explains it very well in Clear and I did write that but I can’t remember how exactly I put it.”

The response sounds ominous, teasing a possible obstacle between Morgan and death despite the Atlanta survivor likely being more than ready to reunite with his late son and wife. In the Clear episode from Season 3, Morgan did explain why he can’t put an end to his own life, as Gimple pointed out but couldn’t recall.

Morgan was of the belief that he couldn’t die because he was weak.

“See, ’cause people like you, the good people, they always die,” Morgan said to Rick. “And the bad people do, too. But the weak people, the people like me… We have inherited the Earth.”

Given Morgan’s accurate prophetic statements in, “If you got something good, that just means that there’s someone who wants to take it,” coming in the same episode, reflecting both the Governor and Negan, his dialogue about being unable to die because of his weaknesses might have been accurate. Unfortunately, this might spell death for the character as he is anything but weak at this point in the AMC series.

“I have to clear,” Morgan said. “That’s why I didn’t die today.”
