While fans of Robert Kirkman‘s The Walking Dead comic have learned a lot about the series’ most impactful villain on the pages of this backstory special, the most recent installment revealed the first victim of Lucille. Negan’s precious bat was used to stand up for the women of a new group when he learned they were being sunjected to rape.

On the pages of Part 14 of Here’s Negan, the villain addresses the apparent leader of a group which crossed paths with his in the previous installments. However, the last pages of Part 13 saw the man offering Negan the opportunity to rape the women in his group, revealing that this is how they carried themselves. Part 14 sees Negan addressing this issue head on.

“Whatever you guys were doing here, it stops now,” Negan said. “Or this is where we part ways,” Negan said.

This only angered the man Negan was standing up to. Feeling as though he was being removed from his position of power, the man kicked off a fight with Negan… Bad choice!

Negan reached for his baseball bat after being pushed into a pile of barbed wire and used the bat to bash the skull of the man. The first kill of Lucille came complete with an eye popping out which is a direct reference to when Negan killed Glenn in Issue #100.

This all was the first time Negan showed signs of being truly brutal towards living humans and revealed he was ready to rule the people surrounding him, including Dwight and Sherry, with fear.

The Backstory

negan first kill

Prior to the zombie virus taking over, Neganย was a high school gym teacher and a ping pong coach.

He wasn’t just any gym teacher, though. Neganย wanted to be the cool teacher. He cursed at his students and gave them a hard time when they would fail, which he saw as a method of pushing them — even when they would feel bullied and start to cry.ย

Before everyone around him started to die, Neganย had a wife.

During his marriage, however, Neganย began having an affair. His wife had full knowledge of the affair and allowed it to happen as she saw that Neganย was happy with it, despite how it hurt her.

When Negan’s wife became diagnosed with terminal cancer, he immediately cut off his relationship with the other woman and tried to spend as much time with his wife as possible. The villain finallyย realized that he loved her but she was furious that it took her cancer to make him cut off the affair. Still, he pushed her around in her wheelchair in the park and stayed by her side in the hospital until the end.

Negan’sย wife’s name was Lucille.ย

There are two 4-page installments remaining in Here’s Negan.
