In the Safe-Zone, Rosita picks her stitches off in a mirror. Tara was coming over to help but Rosita says she is already done. Tara was eager to use skills Denise had taught to her. Rosita is pessimistic and insists they’re not going to have luck finding “that many” guns without acting urgently. Tara says they’ll find them and fight. She suggests Rosita save her rage for the Saviors and offers medical supplies to help Rosita’s scar but Rosita rejects and heads off to find guns.
In the van, Rick sleeps against the window as Michonne drives. She parks in the woods and prepares water at a campfire but comes upon a deer. Grabbing her silenced pistol from the van, she wakes Rick accidentally but heads back to hunt. Rick follows her but doesn’t see anything. She tells him it was a deer and they head after it because he “owed” her a deer, reminding her of handing the other one over to Negan. They see something.
Rick and Michonne approach a fence together and a walker’s shadow passes on the tarp hanging from it. It’s a soldier with a gun in its backpack. They get inside and find shell casing of big bullets. They conclude that something serious happened here a long time ago. The explore the area.
Rosita explores elsewhere. She comes upon a house with its door open and sees a gun on the floor at the door. A horrifying walker steps out and she slashes its throat twice before cutting its head. After killing the walker, she sees the gun on the floor is a BB-gun.
Rick and Michonne explore the rooftop of the school and come upon a carnival which was set up around back. They determine there was a fight here and the leftover guns are exactly what they were looking for. Michonne shoots at one of the carnival games with her rifle and they share a laugh when she hits the bottle. Shortly after, the roof collapses and they fall through.

In the Alexandria church, Rosita enters and tells Gabriel she didn’t find any guns. She tells him, “I had a gun. I was gonna use it to kill Negan.” She changed her plan, though. If she had followed through, Eugene would be here and Olivia and Spencer would still be alive. “I was stupid enough to listen to you,” she tells Gabriel, indicating that she missed her shot on Negan on purpose, following advice of Gabriel’s. She says he doesn’t know anything and he agrees but tells her the group needs her. “Even a fool like me can see that,” he tells her. He decided to intervene because he thought it was right while the stakes were very high. He questions what she will do since she still has a life and appears sure that she will do more than yell at a fool.
Rick and Michonne dig into the boxes of food and find notes indicating they are from the U.S Government. They light some candles and have a hearty dinner. Michonne starts asking what happens after the war with Negan. She says somebody will have to be in charge of all the communities when it’s all over. Rick says, “Not me,” but she insists he would be good at it. He doesn’t think he wants that responsibility but “the two of us, you and me, re-ordering things together… I’d want that,” he said. She is up for it, too. They are becoming more patient on their need to get guns. He says it doesn’t matter how long it takes to get guns to Jadis but then changes the topic and hands over a bag of chili and mac and cheese together. “C’mon,” he says.
Night has fallen and Rick and Michonne put together a cot to sleep in in the school.
Back at Alexandria, Alanna Masterson fiddles with the bracelet made of shells she got from Oceanside. Judith smiles at it. Back at the school, walkers stumble around as Rick and Michonne gear up to take them out. The devise a plan to use a car to block a gap. He will kill one of the walkers and she will take eight. He says she can handle it as they split up. Michonne lures walkers back and Rick runs out to take his out with a hatchet. He tries to get in but a soldier is lodged in the windshield. From the hood, he tries to pull it off by the foot but its foot rips off. Then its legs rip off. Michonne hits two zombies with one slice of her sword. Rick finally gets the soldier out to the windshield and begins pushing the car with Michonne’s help. He jumps in and realizes the brakes don’t work. Michonne hops in the trunk after a soldier walker opens fire because the trigger is stuck on a spear. Rick realizes they over shot it and shares a light moment with Michonne in the car as it is surrounded by walkers.
Moments later, Rick and Michonne pop up through the sun roof and jump into a swing rides fence. They start taking out walkers but the small fence won’t hold. Walkers overrun it and start chasing them. Rick and Michonne run through the carnival and use games to try and keep them back. They plan on splitting them up and fighting them rather than running. Rick uses a hook for prizes and Michonne uses her sword.
Now locked into the fence around a ferris wheel, Rick clangs on it to attract walkers. The two characters take out walkers as fast as they can in a montage. He yells to ask how she’s doing. “Eight more!” she says. He has 10. Suddenly, Rick spots a deer and climbs up on the ferris wheel to get a shot at it. Michonne looks on and just as Rick is about to take the shot, he falls and Michonne runs to him. Michonne sees the zombies eating the deer and drops her sword. Rick emerges after moments of Michonne thinking him dead and he tosses her sword over to her. The two dispatch of the walkers and then share an emotional hug.

Later, in the van, Michonne and Rick head back with the guns and food. She is upset. Rick stops the van to talk for a moment. He says they could have a couple more days and he would have liked that. “I haven’t been sleeping,” he said. “Thinking about what we lost. Thinking about my friends. Glenn saved me right at the start and I couldn’t save him. It’s normal, I know that, being stuck on it. We went through something. This doesn’t cure it.” Michonne tells him she is sorry. “We’re gonna fight them,” Rick says. “We’re gonna lose people. Maybe a lot of them, maybe even each other. Even then, it’d be worth it.” Michonne says she can’t lose him. He calls back to her asking what kind of life they had, surrendering. He says it wasn’t a life. What they’re doing now, though, making a future for Judith and Glenn & Maggie’s baby is living. He insists that she can lose him, he can lose her, they can lose their friends, and it’s not about them. It’s about a future. “If it’s me who doesn’t make it, you’re gonna have to lead the others forward because you’re the one who can.” He says he knows this because she lead him here.
At the junkyard, Jadis evaluates the guns and Rick’s group says there are 63. Jadis says there are not enough guns and they need twice as many. Rick insists they’re keeping 10 to find more. Michonne tries to raise Rick’s spirits and says they’ll find more guns soon.
Back at Alexandria, Rick talks to Tara and asks if she has seen Rosita. She hasn’t, but she has something to tell him.
At the Hilltop, Rosita approaches Sasha. She suggests a plan to go after Negan and offers a rifle in exchange for Sasha’s efforts. Sasha has one condition: she gets to take the shot. They agree. Rosita points out that it’s a one way ticket for both of them. She says she has memorized everything Daryl and Carl said about the Sanctuary’s lay out.
