Mild spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 2 follow.
The Walking Dead aired the second episode of its seventh season on Sunday night. There was a stark contrast between the Season 7 premiere which saw the brutal sendoffs of Abraham & Glenn and the latest hour which took us all to the Kingdom for the first time.

The Kingdom was an optimistic community. They’re extravagant leader, Ezekiel, instills pride among the residents by trotting around with his tiger and cane, speaking in a kingly dialect to those around him.
Furthermore, Ezekiel instills optimism and positivity among the citizens of his Kingdom by writing text which resembles biblical scriptures on the walls of the community. You may find yourself asking, “What written on the walls of the Kingdom?” or “What scriptures were those?”
As it turns out, they are not scriptures. Instead, the phrases seem to be made up by the King himself.
One of the quotes on the wall read, “Hope is the North Star, Let it guide you.”
Another read, “Drink from the well, replenish the well.” (There’s your episode title!)
Each quote written on the walls was followed by the initials, “L.E.”
Other quotes were shown throughout the Kingdom in various scenes but not in their entirety as citizens stood in front of them or others obstacles blocked them from the frame.
Given that a Google search does not prompt any sources for these quotes, one can only assume King Ezekiel is simply writing these quotes on the wall to keep his group positive. After all, he pulled the curtain back on his kingly act for an exchange with Carol during which he revealed his true history.
In any case, the writing on the walls speaks to King Ezekiel’s character. The man has a genuine interest in convincing the people around him to remain positive, upbeat, and with a will to live. His first encounter with Rick Grimes and the Alexandria style of leadership will make for some fun dialogue, that’s for sure.
