Every great character has a great origin story. The Walking Dead‘s Negan is no exception.

The villainous character who has been plaguing Rick Grimes for years in the Image Comics series was first introduced with little to no back story when he shockingly bashed the skull of Glenn Rhee on his first panels. Since, the villain has turned into an anti-hero of sorts with his backstory being told simultaneous to new issues of The Walking Dead in a book called Here’s Negan.
Here’s Negan has been printing in 4-page increments, once a month in the Image+ preview magazine for over a year now. The entire Here’s Negan collection will be available for fans in October.
So far, Here’s Negan has followed the villain from his pre-apocalyptic days and appears to be leading him straight to his encounter with Rick Grimes. The origin story has revealed where his precious Lucille baseball bat got its name, when Negan met Dwight, how he came to be the leader of the Saviors, and why he adopted such brutal, fear-mongering tactics of leadership.
While the villain has largely been seen as a savage menace to the Alexandria community, Here’s Negan revealed a compelling inner conflict which began when his wife was revealed to have a serious illness. During her stay in the hospital is when the entire world began to fall, putting Negan in a location similar to Rick Grimes when both characters first began experiencing the end of the world.
The Walking Dead: Here’s Negan hardcover book will be available for $19.99 in comic book stores on October 4 and book stores on October 10. It arrives just in time for the eighth season of The Walking Dead on AMC.
