Being a character in the Arrowverse has its perks. Since The CW’s franchise doesn’t get to lean on prominent figures like Batman and Wonder Woman, it has to make do with what it has, fleshing out characters that may never get another chance in the live-action spotlight. Green Arrow surely owes a lot ot the Arrowverse, as it’s hard to imagine a vigilante with a bow and arrow being the frontman of any other superhero band. However, the Arrowverse isn’t without its faults. It makes its fair share of missteps, including botching iconic storylines and diving too deep into melodramatic territory.

Another mistake the Arrowverse is guilty of is ignoring characters with a lot of potential. Sure, on any given show, there are a dozen mouths to feed, but that’s no excuse for doing so many people dirty. Here are seven underrated Arrowverse DC characters that no one talks about.
7) Ragman

Against his better judgment, Oliver Queen recruits new heroes to his cause in Arrow Season 5. Most of them use guns or tech to do their dirty work, but there’s one character who has a more interesting calling card. Rory Regan finds himself in possession of a powerful set of rags that he turns into a suit. Taking to the streets of Star City as Ragman, he quickly proves to be the most powerful member of Team Arrow. While a run-in with a nuclear device cuts his time as a hero short, Ragman still deserves praise.
6) Patty Spivot

It takes a while for Barry Allen and Iris West to get on the same page, allowing other characters to get a shot at dating The Flash. Patty Spivot, a detective at CCPD, tries to get Barry to open up, but there’s always a hurdle they can’t get over. The real issue is that Barry refuses to tell her that he’s a superhero, fearing what might happen to her if he does. The whole situation is unfair to Patty, who proves to be not only a great match for Barry but a solid cop.
5) Ava Sharpe

The Legends think they have a pretty sweet gig, travelling to different points of history and saving the day, until they run into the Time Bureau. The organization initially tries to kill the titular team’s vibe, but things change when Ava Sharpe takes control. She becomes a member of the Legends and grows close to Sara Lance. Their relationship doesn’t get as much credit as it should, as it’s one of the better ones in the Arrowverse. Ava also grows outside of her relationship, learning to accept being a clone.
4) Speedy

Coming back from Lian Yu isn’t easy for Oliver, as he sees the world in a very different light. Thankfully, he still has one person in his corner who tells it like it is: Thea Queen. After learning her brother’s secret, Thea joins Team Arrow and picks up her own bow. Speedy doesn’t stick around for the long haul, which allows other characters to steal her shine. However, she’s as good a sidekick as there has ever been.
3) Martin Stein

While appearing on The Flash, it’s clear that Martin Stein wants more for himself. Well, his opportunity comes when Rip Hunter comes calling. Martin has to trick his Firestorm partner, Jefferson Jackson, into boarding the Waverider, but it’s a decision both of them embrace. Martin becomes a mentor to all of the Legends, pushing them to be better versions of themselves. Sadly, he loses his life during one of the Arrowverse’s most shocking moments.
2) Julian Albert

Barry finds himself with some competition after he returns from the “Flashpoint” timeline in The Flash Season 3. Julian Albert is working with him and has become buddies with everyone at S.T.A.R. Labs. Barry is skeptical of him and eventually learns that Savitar is using him to get closer to his goal. It’s not Julian’s fault, though, and after Savitar is gone, everyone learns to love the CSI. The only problem is that he doesn’t stick around for very long, making him a footnote in Barry’s story.
1) Mon-El

Connecting with people is hard for Supergirl because very few people understand what it’s like to be alone on a new planet. When Mon-El shows up, Kara Zor-El finally feels like she can be herself, and it doesn’t hurt that he’s a powerhouse in the strength department. Mon-El proves to be a loyal friend and great hero, but he can’t stick around for long. He leaves the present behind in Supergirl Season 2 and only travels back from the future a couple of times before the show comes to an end.
The Arrowverse shows are streaming on Netflix.
