This week, Netflix released the much-anticipated second chapter of Wednesday season 2, and one of the biggest changes from season 1 is the increased involvement of the rest of the Addams Family. Gomez, Morticia, Pugsley, Thing, Fester, and Grandmama Hester all play a much bigger role this time around, and that increased screen time has also led to a number of callbacks to moments from the original Addams Family movies. We’re breaking down all of the moments we spotted right here, starting with one of the first episodes of the season.

8. Pugsley Stop Signs
In the first episode of the season, the family is driving along the road when Wednesday tells Pugsley that he needs to hit the center of the O on an upcoming stop sign. He hits the sign with his electric blast, and it ignites a series of events that ultimately cause car accidents and an explosion.
In The Addams Family, Pugsley doesn’t hit the stop sign with electricity, but he causes an accident nonetheless. In this version, he comes downstairs and reveals he has removed the stop sign from the ground, thus causing cars to smash into each other, though we don’t actually see it.
7. Addams Family Golfing

In episode 2, Bianca heads to Principal Dort’s office, where they discuss the goal of getting Grandmama to donate to the school using Bianca’s siren abilities. When Bianca arrives, Dort is practicing his putting, knocking golf balls into a cup on the ground.
In The Addams Family, it’s Gomez practicing his swing, though things are a bit different. The biggest difference is that Thing is holding the golf ball, and Gomez is taking practice drives from the house, with Thing catching the golf club after Gomez finishes the swing. It seems that golf is always on the mind when an Addams is nearby.
6. A Duel of Swords
In episode 3, Wednesday and Morticia battle it out in a good old-fashioned sword fight, with Goody’s book on the line as the grand prize. It’s no ordinary sword fight though, as both combatants are blindfolded as well, making the battle that much more intense. Morticia ends up winning the day and burning Goody’s book in the process, so not only is it a thrilling fight, but it also has major consequences on the story.
In the original Addams Family, it’s actually Gomez wielding the sword, but it’s a much different circumstance. Here, Gomez ambushes the crooked family lawyer Tully Alford, throwing a sword at his head as soon as he turns around in the room. In contrast to Wednesday and Morticia’s throwdown, Tully isn’t much of a swordsman or match for Gomez, so this is more of a display of skill as opposed to a genuine fight. They have a rematch during a later scene, and even then, Gomez easily bests his opponent, but both still count.
5. Fester in the Tub
Uncle Fester makes his grand return to Wednesday in episode 4, and his niece tasks him with getting taken to Willow Hall. He accomplishes this feat by causing mayhem at a local hotel, and after disrupting everything, the police arrive to find him hanging out with rubber duckies in the bathtub.
This is an homage to an iconic Addams Family Values scene where Fester is taking a bath in the tub. Debbie finds him and asks him if he would die for her, and he tells her yes. That’s when she throws a stereo into the tub, electrocuting Fester in an attempt to kill him. We all find out that Fester is incredibly hard to kill, and he’s still in good spirits to boot.
4. Camp Chaos
In episode 3, the Nevermore students go on what is supposed to be a peaceful and fun camping trip, though we quickly learn that isn’t going to be the case. Instead, they end up having to fight for the right to be at the camp with a group of cadets and their extreme leader. Wednesday is able to seal the win for the Outcasts in this battle of wits and strategy, and it’s one of the season’s best episodes.
That episode is an homage to one of the great Addams Family Values sequences, which also features Wednesday at the center. In that film, Wednesday is sent to Camp Chippewa, where the instructors are intent on getting her to assimilate with the rest of the group. Instead, Wednesday ends up leading a full-on revolt, completely destroying their Thanksgiving play and lighting the campsite on fire as the instructors put over a roaring fire. It’s hilarious and pretty much iconic at this point.
3. The Family Seance
Towards the end of the season in episode 8, the family starts really working together on Wednesday’s main mission, and to help figure things out, Morticia, Grandmama, and Wednesday engage in a seance. They end up getting a lead on Pugsley’s disappearance, and the origin of Issac and his previous conflict with the family all come to light by the end. There are lighthearted moments, but this is a more serious sequence compared to the next one we’ll talk about.
In The Addams Family, the seance includes Gomez, Pugsley, Tully, and more, but most importantly, it includes Thing. When Thing is discovered by the guests at the table, they are scared out of their minds, and Gomez, Pugsley, and Morticia can’t help but laugh at the chaos. Thing then starts racing around the house soon after, and it just goes to show that Thing makes any sequence that much better.
2. Gomez Sings a Tune
In episode 3, the Addams Family is along for the ride on the Nevermore camping trip, and it results in some truly comedic moments. One such moment is when Gomez takes a shower in the camp facilities, but this is Gomez, so he has to have some musical accompaniment. Gomez has a record player and starts to sing along to Besame Mucho by Consuelo Velรกzquez, and he continues to do so even as Slurp attempts to break through the stall and eat his brains.
Now, in the original films, Gomez actually sings a few times, though there’s no undead attempting to kill him during these numbers. The song that springs to mind most is from Addams Family Values, where Gomez celebrates Fester with a rendition of Mamushka. Fester and Gomez perform the Mamushka amongst all their family and friends, and it even ends up involving a host of knives, with Fester even catching one of them in his mouth.
1. Gomez and Morticia’s Dance
Wednesday season 2 features a number of callbacks regarding the original films, but there’s one that stands out most, and that’s the dance. During the season, we see Gomez and Morticia putting on a record and dancing the tango. Someone else is sneaking around the house, but that doesn’t keep Gomez and Morticia from enjoying the moment and the fact that there’s no chaos happening at the moment, which there’s plenty of throughout the season.
This is a callback to the famous dance from Addams Family Values between Gomez and Morticia, though the circumstances were quite different. Instead of a private affair, the two are dancing in front of tables of onlookers, and Wednesday’s version also doesn’t include setting the dance floor on fire or the throwing of knives. Still, the homage is clear, and both are great in their own right.
Those are all the moments we spotted in Wednesday season 2, but let us know if we missed any or which ones were your favorites in the comments or on the ComicBook forum!
