Disney‘s animated series Gargoyles was a staple for kids in the ’90s. The stone creatures who came to life at night would team with a NYPD detective and fly across the Manhattan rooftops, solving crimes and dealing with modern Shakespearean allegories.

Fan-favorite character and leader of the gargoyles Goliath—voiced by Keith David—fought monsters both human and supernatural alongside his crew named after various New York landmarks and boroughs.

And though the series might have left an impression on many a geek, it seems relegated to cult status. One of those deep cuts you might mention when feeling particularly nostalgic. But it isn’t something you see or hear about very often.

Which is why we were so stoked to see this impressive cosplay from Knightmage as Goliath.

Knightmage has made some wonderful cosplay, including the Beast from Beauty and the Beast, Afro Samurai, Bane, and Barrett from Final Fantasy VII. He tends to stay off the beaten path with his character choice, forgoing the insanely popular characters and instead recreating those deserving of a bigger spotlight.

And few characters deserve the spotlight like the leader of the Gargoyles.

The body suit is painted to match the cartoon’s aesthetic while bringing it to life and his wings are a wonderful touch, mimicking the arched points. Points for the legs and facial prosthetics, too, making the stylized creature as true to design as can be.

It’s all pretty impressive, especially considering Knightmage does his cosplay on a limited budget.
