Power Rangers fans got some welcome news earlier this year when it was reported that a new Power Rangers series was in development for Disney+, and new details on that project can’t come soon enough. That’s not the only new series that fans of the 30-year franchise should be keeping an eye on, however, as Disney has revealed a new series that not only features elements of Power Rangers but also feels like a modern version of another iconic 1980s kids’ show.

It was announced that CAKE (an independent entertainment company) has entered into a global deal with Disney Branded Television for a live-action series titled Armorsaurs. The new series is produced by MGA Entertainment and revolves around a team of teen pilots who command armored dinosaurs. As you can see in the trailer below, Armorsaurs definitely has some clear Power Rangers vibes, but it also feels like a new era version of another nostalgic 1980s cartoon as well, and that’s Dino-Riders.
What Exactly Is Armorsaurs?
Armorsaurs follows the modern-day adventures of a team of teen pilots as they attempt to defend the Earth from invasion by an advanced alien race. That may sound like a daunting task, and it is, but these pilots all carry a rare genetic marker that allows them to bond with a lineup of powerhouse armored dinosaurs. Once bonded, they are able to operate as a team and utilize the special battle armor each dinosaur wears in battle, and yes, they also each have their own unique color theme.
There are clearly Power Rangers elements in the mix when you watch the trailer (seen above), as you’ll get epic battles of armored dinosaurs and larger-than-life creatures. That said, watching the footage indicates that you’ll see more of the Rangers piloting their separate vehicles and then moving to the armored-up Dinosaur as opposed to moving from individual Zords to something combinable like a Megazord.
Dino-Riders 2.0
Those differences are key to why this feels much more like Dino-Riders 2.0 as opposed to Power Rangers. Dino-Riders was an animated series that first debuted in 1988, and is based on the concept of two alien races (the Valerians and the Rulons) from the future who were transported to prehistoric-era Earth.
While the Valerians were able to establish communication with the dinosaurs of the era and eventually call them friends, the Rulons took an extremely different approach, brainwashing dinosaurs to serve in their army. After their initial team-up to repel the Rulons, the Valerians and dinosaurs permanently teamed up, creating the Dino-Riders.

One of the hallmark aspects of the show was the pilot and dinosaur dynamic, especially for the Valerians, as they were the good guys after all. Not only would the pilots have different setups for each dinosaur in order to guide them, but the dinosaurs also had weapon mounts and armor to help them in the battle, so you can clearly see some inspiration regarding Armorsaurs.
Armorsaurs stars Jailen Bates (WITS Academy, OMG!, Dr. Ken, Walk The Prank, Superior Donuts), Avianna Mynhier (The Walking Dead, Running Point, Blue Ridge: The Series, Panic), and newcomers Jacob Makabi, Derrick Kwak, and Sade Louise. The series also stars Michael Dorn (Star Trek), Julien Kang (High Kick!, Twelve Men in a Year, Goodbye, Dear Wife, To The Beautiful You, The Prisoner), Yvonne Chapman (Avatar: The Last Airbender, Kung Fu), and Andrew Russell (Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, Diablo IV, Honkai: Star Rail).
MGA and Daewon Media produced the first season of 13 episodes, while Disney Branded Television acquired 26 half-hour episodes across two seasons. Armorsaurs will debut on Disney XD on October 13th at 9:00 PM EST in the United States, and will then launch on Disney+ in February of 2026.
