It has been more than 18 months since Rick and Morty wrapped its second season, but Adult Swim has finally got a lock on the fan-favorite show. Rick and Morty held a special livestream event tonight with its co-creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon. Together, the two announced the premiere date of Rick and Morty‘s third season – and this new trailer gives fans a taste of what to expect.

Earlier tonight, Roiland finally gave fans a long-awaited announcement about the Adult Swim show’s comeback. The co-creator confirmed Rick and Morty would debut its new season on July 30th.

“We did it,” Roiland told a cheering crowd as he revealed the show’s release date. “We f*cking did it!”

Of course, the revelation has come as a gift to fans of the series. Rick and Morty‘s third season has been plagued by delays, and fans recently began to ask after the show and its hiatus. Recently, Harmon took to Twitter to address the issue, and the co-creator had this to say:

“Justin and I are very regretful about the season taking way too long. I want to explain “what happened” because it’s way less dramatic than you might ever imagine. post internet TV audiences are so used to finding out there’s an intriguing/confusing/intense reason 4 delays and Christ knows if you’ve ever seen MY name on the internet I’ve only got myself to blame for an association with intrigue/confusion/drama, but the truth in this case is so very boring.”

“The reason S3 took long is because it took long to write” said Harmon. “Because it was S3 of a show that we were scared to make worse than S2 or S1.” “But don’t worry about the content, because the reason overthought slows you down is you just do way more versions of stuff than needed. You usually end up back where you started. So as far as I can tell, although I’m too close to it, it’s just another good season of RAM.”

For now, it looks like the show’s trouble past has been left in the past. Roiland and Harmon were buddy-buddy at the livestream event, and fans are glad to see the duo enjoying the riches of Rick and Morty‘s return. When the show drops in July, it will come back with 10 new episodes in tow, so fans can go ahead and block off their calendars for Rick and Morty‘s brand-new adventures now.

Rick and Morty is Adult Swim‘s most scientifically accurate animated comedy. Created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, it catalogues the bizarre misadventures of a bored scientific genius/drunkard and his socially awkward grandson, Morty. Their exploits tend to have unintended consequences for Morty’s dysfunctional family, especially his unfailingly mediocre father, Jerry. Watch Rick and Morty battle everything from interdimensional customs agents to Cronenberg monsters.

The cast features Justin Roiland as both Rick Sanchez and his grandson, Morty; Sarah Chalke as Rick’s daughter, Beth; Chris Parnell as Rick’s son-in-law and Beth’s husband, Jerry; and Spencer Grammer as Rick’s granddaughter and Beth and Jerry’s daughter, Summer.
