New episodes of Riverdale are still a month away, but thanks to the latest promo from The CW, fans are getting their first look at the arrival of Betty’s (Lili Reinhart) long-lost brother Chic Cooper,

The new promo is an extended version of the midseason premiere teaser we’ve seen before, and in this new clip we not only get a peek at the shakeup the closing of Southside High brings for Riverdale High, but we also see Alice Cooper (Mädchen Amick) revealing to Betty that she wants to see her son. You can check out the promo in the video above.
In the promo, Alice acts on her wish as we see her walk into a shabby-looking apartment to meet Chic (Hart Denton) presumably for the first time since his birth. And while it looks like that meeting might go fairly well, we also see a brief look at a sobbing Alice comforted by Betty in the car, hinting that the reunion might more dramatic or at least emotional in the episode than what this promo teases.
No matter how the mother-son reunion plays out, fans are excited to finally see Betty’s older brother make his way into Riverdale. Fans have known about Chic Cooper since the season one finale of Riverdale when Alice revealed to Betty that she got pregnant in high school, but Betty’s dad Hal (Lochlyn Munro) wanted her to get an abortion. Alice ultimately went to the Sisters of Quiet Mercy where she gave birth to Chic and subsequently gave him up for adoption. Fans have known Chic would make his debut on Riverdale sometime this season after news that actor/musician Hart Denton had been cast in the role broke back in October, though with the mystery of the Black Hood being front and center during the first half of the season, some fans were concerned that he would end up being the serial killer. However, the killer was seemingly unmasked at the end of the midseason finale and the face behind the Black Hood turned out to be the janitor Mr. Svenson and not Betty’s “blond Adonis” brother.
But even with the reveal of Mr. Svenson of the Black Hood things seemed a little unsettled and how that mystery’s resolution — as well as Chic Cooper’s place in Riverdale — will have to wait until the midseason premiere to play out.
Riverdale returns to The CW on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 8/7c.
