In a recent interview with TVLine, Supernatural EP Andrew Dabb spoke about the return of Missouri Moseley. Played by Grey’s Anatomy‘s Loretta Devine, the psychic character first debuted in season one, and is set to make a long-awaited return in the thirteenth season’s third episode, ‘Patience.’

While Missouri has been absent from Supernatural‘s events for over a decade, but Dabb revealed that the show will go into “the reasons why we haven’t seen her in a few years.”

Dabb also hinted that Missouri’s long absence from the show will help her forge a unique relationship with the Winchester boys.

“[She’s] one of the few people still around who can comment on what Sam and Dean were like versus what they are like [now].” Dabb explained. “The last time she saw Sam and Dean, Sam was just out of college, and Dean was struggling with being his own man, still kind of in his dad’s shadow. They are not those guys anymore.”

Supernatural also has another reason for Missouri’s return, which is hinted at in the title of her return episode. She will help introduce her granddaughter, Patience Turner (Designated Survivor‘s Clark Backo) into the show’s universe, before she joins the much-anticipated Wayward Sisters spinoff.

Supernatural season 13 premieres on Thursday, October 12th @ 8/7c on The CW.
