As audiences witnessed at the conclusion of Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness, Joe Exotic was incarcerated for a number of instances of animal abuse, as the rest of the figures from the documentary series gained newfound fame, with Investigation Discovery delivering all-new documentaries chronicling Exotic himself, which feature interviews with the lively figure from prison. Joe Exotic: Tigers, Lies, and Cover-Up will explore theories regarding Exotic and new clues that have emerged since the original documentary series went public, while Joe Exotic: Before He Was King serves as a prequel to that investigation, chronicling the events that led to his imprisonment.
Per press release, "Retired homicide investigator Jim Rathmann leads the investigation to discover the truth, revealing new theories uncovered by private investigators, reliving Lewis’s final days and demeanor with those closest to him, and unpacking evidence exposed by criminal and legal experts. Beyond the controversial missing person investigation, this special also explores the criminal case against Joe Exotic and raises the question: Was Joe Exotic the predator all along, or is he actually the prey? Joe Exotic: Tigers, Lies, and Cover-Up begins with Part 1 & 2 airing Sunday, September 27th at 9 p.m. ET and concludes with Part 3 on Monday, September 28th at 9 p.m. ET on Investigation Discovery."
