Wynonna Earp‘s Doc Holliday, actor Tim Rozon, has always been a comic book fan — and now that he’s found himself both starring in a comic book TV show and writing comics alongside industry veteran Beau Smith, he’s feling pretty good.

Rozon told ComicBook.com that while he’d love to suit up for a more traditional comic book adaptation like the network’s forthcoming Krypton someday, right now all he’s worried about is Wynonna Earp getting a third season so that he can continue to play Doc. When it came to actually writing the comics, though, he was…well, we’ll say enthusiastic.

“When the opportunity came up to co-write the Legends books, a two-issue story arc about Doc Holliday with Beau Smith, I jumped at the opportunity and I’m not lying when I say it was probably the best experience of my life,” Rozon told ComicBook.com during an interview in support of Wynonna‘s second season premiere, which will air tonight. “The only thing that maybe would compare would be getting the part of Doc Holliday on Wynonna Earp. It’s cliché to say but I’m honestly living the dream; I’ve never been happier, and Beau was the most generous, humble, and amazing guy to work with and mentor to work with. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity…but actually, it wasn’t because this year we’re going to be writing a five-part miniseries together and we just finished issue three, so we’ve got two more issues to do on that run. The run we’re writing this year would be…where the show started last year? The books we’re doing right now would be where Wynonna was just before she got back to Purgatory, so we’ve got some really cool stuff happening.”

In the series’ pilot, Wynonna returned to Purgatory from years away, and when pressed as to where she’s been rattled off a variety of locations.

The new miniseries is titled Wynonna Earp: Season Zero and launches in July. Wynonna Earp airs Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Syfy.

Based on the IDW Comic, Wynonna Earp (Melanie Scrofano) follows Wyatt Earp’s great granddaughter as she battles demons and other creatures. With her unique abilities, and a posse of dysfunctional allies, she’s the only thing that can bring the paranormal to justice. After years away, Wynonna Earp has traveled back to her home town of Purgatory to reluctantly take on the role destined for Wyatt Earp’s heir: Demon protector. Her enemy: Revenants, the resurrected (and twisted) souls of the criminals Wyatt Earp once took down. Using only her wits and her wit, Wynonna, along with sister Waverely (Dominique Provost-Chalkley), associate Agent Dolls (Shamier Anderson) and Wyatt’s cursed-with-immortality-best-friend Doc Holliday (Tim Rozon), must try to stop the Revenants from taking over the town – and escaping into the world.

The cast also features Katherine Barrell as Nicole Haught, a local cop and Waverly’s girlfriend, as well as newcomers Varun Saranga as Jeremy Chetri and Tamara Duarte as Rosita.

Wynonna Earp is produced in Calgary by SEVEN24 Films, and distributed by IDW Entertainment. Emily Andras (Lost Girl, Killjoys) developed the series for television and serves as Executive Producer and showrunner. SEVEN24’s Jordy Randall and Tom Cox, IDW’s Ted Adams and David Ozer, Banditos Yanquis’ Todd Berger, and Circle of Confusion’s Rick Jacobs also serve as Executive Producers.

Wynonna Earp Season 2 premieres tonight at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Syfy.
