Avengers: Infinity War Writers Tease Rocket Raccoon Appearance

When Avengers: Infinity War rolls around in 2018, it will be "the culmination of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date" according to its directors.

The culminate the MCU, that would mean pulling characters from every corner to feature in the battle against Thanos and his Infinity Gauntlet. Last month, Anthony Russo confirmed that Star-Lord will be making an appearance in Infinity War by saying that Chris Pratt's character is the one he is most looking forward to working on but there was no word on the other Guardians of the Galaxy.

Now, the writers of Infinity War (and previously: Captain America: Civil War and Agent Carter) are teasing the appearance of another Guardian - Rocket Raccoon.

"Whether they're a 12-foot purple guy, or a raccoon, or an android, they're all people, and we're going to write them as people," Christopher Markus said while speaking about keeping the characters as grounded as possible. "You can't write them any other way. So, ideally it will stay grounded because you'll completely understand why the characters are doing what they're doing, and you will in some way or another empathize."

The writers aren't afraid to bust out of their comfort zone a bit compared to their work on the more believable concepts of Civil War and The Winter Soldier, though. "We certainly don't want to try to betray the Jim Starlin Thanos, all those comic runs," says Stephen McFeely. "They get pretty trippy. That's in the DNA of it. But before we get there, you'll see Guardians 2, you'll see Doctor Strange. My hope is that the movie audience will be a little bit more prepared for some trippier stuff."

Avengers: Infinity War Parts I and II are set for release in May 2018 and May 2019, respectively.
