Star Wars: Episode VIII has wrapped production in Ireland, which means if there's any kind of showdown at Ahch-To, the island site of the first Jedi Temple where Rey found Luke Skywalker at the end of the last film, it has been shot, and the battle is over.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens ended with Rey finding Luke, who had been hiding out for some time less than five years (as told to us by the novel Star Wars Bloodline). Luke retreated to the First Jedi Temple, the film told us, after his student Ben Solo turned to the dark side and became Kylo Ren, working for the First Order. That island became the shoot for the first teaser footage for Episode VIII, directed by Rian Johnson, and is rumored to be the location of a climactic scene in the film. Daisy Ridley (Rey), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), and Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) were all spotted arriving back in Ireland a few weeks ago for the shoot.

Now, principal photography will likely head back to the studios outside London as they speed toward conclusion and move into the long year and a half of post-production. With Star Wars Celebration Europe taking place in London this July, it's very likely that 2016's Star Wars release: Rogue One, will share some of the spotlight with Episode VIII.

Star Wars: Episode VIII, written and directed by Rian Johnson, continues principal photography for a December 15, 2017 release. The story will advance the tale of Rey, Finn, Poe, Kylo Ren, and the legacy characters of Luke Skywalker, Leia, Chewbacca, and those loveable droids.
