Spider-Man: Homecoming continues to fill out the roles of Peter Parker's classmates, as Michael Barbieri has joined the film, Heroic Hollywood was first to report. The fourteen year-old actor is currently filming The Dark Tower also at Sony Pictures, who will co-produce Homecoming with Marvel Studios.

Comicbook.com sources tell us Barbieri's character will be a new one, though he'll be based off the Ultimate Spider-Man character Ganke. In that comicbook from Marvel Comics, Ganke is the trusted best friend of the other Spider-Man, Miles Morales. His affinity for Superheroes and unwavering optimism and support of his friend are his standout characteristics, which can be expected to be found in Barbieri's new character.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is gearing up to begin principal photography this summer, starring Tom Holland in the lead role of Peter Parker, Spider-Man. He first appeared in the role in Captain America: Civil War, where he got a costume and gear upgrade from Tony Stark. The character is in a landmark rights-sharing deal between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, where Sony produces (and benefits from) his solo films, but the character resides within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Marvel Studios can use him in their team films.

Robert Downey, Jr. has been confirmed as appearing in in Homecoming, again reprising his role as Tony Stark, Iron Man. Other cast include Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Zendaya as another classmate of Peter's, and Michael Keaton as the primary villain, largely speculated and rumored to be The Vulture.

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters July 7, 2017.
