On Wednesday, it was reported that Orphan Black and Better Call Saul actor Michael Mando has joined the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming, though no details were provided on his role. However, yesterday, the official Better Call Saul Twitter account strongly hinted that Mando is playing Cletus Kasady, the demented and violent felon that becomes Carnage.

They tweeted: "Michael Mando is spectacular at bringing carnage to life in Better Call Saul."

In the comics, the Venom symbiote rescued Eddie Brock (its host) from prison, but left a spawn behind, which was found by Brock's cellmate, Cletus Kasady. Whereas Brock was pretty monomaniacal — generally a good guy, except as it applied to Spider-Man — Kasady was a homicidal maniac even before he got the Carnage symbiote, and once he had the power to REALLY misbehave, he used it.

The cast features Tom Holland (In the Heart of the Sea) as Spider-Man/Peter Parker, Marisa Tomei (My Cousin Vinny) as Aunt May, and Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) as Tony Stark/Iron Man, and Michael Keaton (Batman) as The Vulture. It also includes Zendaya (K.C. Undercover), Donald Glover (The Martian), Martin Starr (Silicon Valley) Laura Harrier (One Life to Live), Kenneth Choi (The People vs. O.J. Simpson), Michael Barbieri (The Dark Tower), Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus), Michael Mando (Better Call Saul), Selenis Leyva (Orange is the New Black), Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Isabella Amara (The Boss), Jorge Lendeborg, Jr. (Graceland), JJ Totah (Liv and Maddie), Hannibal Buress (30 Rock), Abraham Attah (Beasts of No Nation), and Bokeem Woodbine (Fargo).

The film is being directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car, Clown), based on a script by Vacation and Horrible Bosses screenwriters, John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will be released on July 7, 2017.
