While Mon Mothma is front and center in the first trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, she also seems to be what role playing gamers might call a "quest giver." She's there, tells the heroes what they need to do, and fades into the background, right? Not so fast, says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

"We actually see quite a bit of her. The Rebel Alliance is in disarray. Pretty panicked. Up against it. And she is trying the best she can to provide the leadership, in amonst a wide variety of Rebel soldiers that have very differing opinions as to what to do," Kennedy told EW. Her role is "significantly larger" than her short yet pivotal role in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi.

For the unitiated, Mon Mothma, played in Rogue One by Genevieve O'Reilly and in Return of the Jedi by Caroline Blakiston, was a Senator of the old Republic who becomes one of the early, and most stalwart leaders of the Rebel Alliance.

O'Reilly, interestingly enough, was cast in the role thirteen years ago, for Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. While her scenes were cut, she wound up on the DVD, and her uncanny resemblance to Blakiston came in handy for director Gareth Edwards.
