Star Wars has added plenty of iconic characters, locales, and items to our pop culture lexicon and Lucasfilm and Disney have made toys and merchandise out of just about all of them. One of the most significant is the Lightsaber, the Jedi and Sith weapon. Or, as Obi-Wan Kenobi once put it, "An elegant weapon for a more civilized age."

You can go to any toy store and find plenty of lightsabers to pull off of the shelf, ranging from plastic lightsabers with pop-out blades, to more substantial replicas with internal lighting. However, any student of Jedi or Sith lore knows that a key part of a padawan or apprentice training is learning to build their own lightsaber.

Modern technology has made that process significantly easier. In the video above, Sean Charlesworth of Adam Savage's Tested shows off his own Sith lightsaber 3D-printing kit, complete with all of the pieces you'll need to assemble a weapon of your own. He even opens up the hilt to show a cross-section view, which includes the kyber crystal used to power to blade.

Of course, the hilt doesn't actually include a blade of light, but that's what your imagination is for right?

Moviegoers will next visit that galaxy far, far away in Rogue One: A Star WarsStory in December. The core Star Wars saga continues in Star Wars: Episode VIII in 2017.
