Star Wars Rebels Clip: Ezra Reaches Into the Dark Side

At the end of Star Wars Rebels season two, things weren't looking so good for young Ezra Bridger. The Jedi-in-training had one mentor apparently die, his master blinded, was seduced into at least brushing up against the dark side of the Force by Darth Maul, and went home from it all with a Sith Holocron - which he then opened. Sith Holocrons can only be opened by dark side energy, so that doesn't bode very well for Ezra.

Now, some time has passed and Ezra is slimmer, faster, stronger, and apparently quite a bit darker. In this latest clip from the Season 3 premiere, Ezra uses a dark new power, going far beyond a simple Jedi Mind Trick, instead taking over the mind of a Stormtrooper. It's intense, and terrifying; you can see it on the face of Zeb and Hondo at the end of the clip. Even Ezra's friends don't know where he got this power or what's going on with him.

Star Wars Rebels Season 3 will explore the Force in new ways, helping to show how everyone is connected to the Force, and demonstrating that the Jedi and Sith are far from the only ones in the galaxy that can manipulate it. In fact, the Jedi and Sith don't know nearly as much about the Force as they think they do, as will be demonstrated when Kanan meets The Bendu, an ancient Force-sensitive being that sits "in the middle" of the Force, leaning neither to the dark nor the light. Perhaps that's our "out" for Ezra, as well, then, letting him become one of the first true "grey" beings in Star Wars canon. The idea of a "grey Jedi" has been explored in some of the Legends material, but we haven't seen it on screen yet.
