Captain America: Civil War opened in May and quickly conquered the box office. During its successful run, the Marvel film became the highest-grossing film of 2016 domestically ($408M), internationally and globally. Since then, Captain America: Civil War has remained the top dog at foreign ($745.2M) and worldwide box office ($1,15B), but Finding Dory did surpass it in July to become the 2016 North American box office champion — which it currently clings to with $486.2M.

However, in just 16-days of its release, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is expected to surpass Civil War, taking second-place at the domestic box office with $408.9M and pushing the Avengers-on-Avengers film to third.

By Monday, analyst believe Rogue One will have a domestic cume of $441M. That would mean its 18-day run would be 10% ahead of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight ($400M) and just 13% behind Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World ($506.9M). It should finish its stateside run well north of $500M; however, don't expect it to exceed $600M.
