It's official: some rare and regional-exclusive Pokemon are appearing at Pokemon Go Fest. Players taking advantage of the "early catch hour" are reporting that Heracross and Unown are both spawning in high quantities at Pokemon Go's first ever live event in Chicago.

Heracross typically doesn't spawn in Chicago...or in most of the United States. Heracross is a regional-exclusive Pokemon that only appears south of the 29 N latitude line, or anywhere south of Jacksonville, Florida.

While Unown isn't a regional-exclusive Pokemon, it's typically pretty rare and has over 20 variant formes...each based off a letter of the alphabet.

As of right now, those are the only unusual Pokemon appearing at Pokemon Go Fest, although we're expecting more to appear later today when the first ever Legendary Pokemon raid appears during the event.

Interestingly, it doesn't look like you need to be a registered attendee of Pokemon Go Fest to catch one of these rare Pokemon. Players standing outside of Grant Park claim they were able to catch Heracross even before they had gained entry to the event. So if you live in Chicago and weren't able to get a ticket to Pokemon Go Fest, it might be worth heading down to the area and seeing if you can snatch one of these otherwise unavailable Pokemon.

Pokemon Go Fest runs all day today, so stay tuned to WWG for complete coverage of the big event.
