The Last Jedi is expected to be one of the biggest adventures yet in the Star Wars saga, and in at least in regards to length, it is definitely the biggest. According to Cineworld, the film's official running time is 150 minutes, pushing Attack of the Clones and its 142-minute runtime out of the top spot.

Considering the exact length of two-and-a-half hours, it's possible that the movie website has merely estimated an expected time or merely posted the runtime as a placeholder, but with Rian Johnson having recently announced that post-production on the film has completed, the runtime has more credence.

Interestingly, the original three films in the trilogy are the three shortest, with Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi clocking in at 121 minutes, 124 minutes and 132 minutes respectively. It's possible that, with these films being made at a time when the saga wasn't a dominating pop culture force, the filmmakers aimed to have as trim a production as possible.

By the time the prequels rolled around, the legacy of the series was well established, allowing Lucasfilm to explore any narrative they so desired with The Phantom Menace and all subsequent films.

Lucasfilm has kept a tight lid on releasing anything to the public about the sequel, which opens in less than three months. One trailer debuted earlier this year at Star Wars Celebration and a behind-the-scenes reel was released this summer at the D23 Expo, with no official word on a follow-up trailer.

Earlier this month, Mark Hamill responded to a fan who asked when a new trailer would debut, with Hamill saying they should tune in to Monday Night Football on October 9. While not an official confirmation, Hamill ended up deleting the tweet, most likely because he gave away more information than Disney was willing to share, but his response made sure we'll all be watching the program closely for a trailer debut.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres in theaters December 15.
