One Piece is one of the most popular manga and anime series not only in Japan, but worldwide. It's been at such a constant level of popularity despite running for so long that fans often forget just how popular it is.

Now that One Piece is officially the top selling manga series in Japan for the tenth year in a row, the creator has responded to the news in the best way.

One Piece series creator Eiichiro Oda commented on the series' record-breaking sales milestone with as much hilarity and seriousness that his series is known for.

Stating that, "I'm honored to hear that One Piece is the best selling manga for 10 consecutive years!! Thank you for tallying the numbers every year. I keep in my that I should obtain as many readers as possible. I've experienced that people can make friends via talking manga ever since I was a kid."

Elaborating further, Oda said, "I love being number one. I won't forget the feeling of gratitude. I'll make every effort to make One Piece the best manga in terms of both records and people's memory!! Thank you so much!!"

For an extra bit of that Oda flavored goodness, he often references the fact that he still has the Guinness World Record for most copies of the same book sold from a single author. According to his editors at Shuiesha's Weekly Shonen Jump, Oda can often be heard saying "I have a Guinness World Record."

It must be great for fans of the series to see that Oda is not only taking the news of its popularity with grace, he still has the drive to move forward. Considering he last stated he's only about half done with the series overall, I'm sure One Piece's popularity will be just as strong for ten more years.

Eiichiro Oda's One Piece first began serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump in 1997. It has been collected into 87 volumes, with a few chapters yet to be included. It has been a critical and commercial success worldwide with many of the volumes breaking printing records in Japan. The manga has even set a Guinness World Record for the most copies published for the same comic book by a single author, and is the best selling manga series worldwide with 430 million copies sold worldwide.

One Piece is currently in the middle of the "Whole Cake Island" arc and is now streaming on Crunchyroll.
