Comic Book Men - The Esposito Collection

"The Esposito Collection" episode of Comic Book Men kicks off with Walt asking the Secret Stash guys to tell him their top two robots of all time. Ming selects R2D2 from Star Wars and the Terminator. Mike selects the Vision from The Avengers and Data from Star Trek the Next Generation. A seller brings in some DC Comics drinking glasses. Walt has never seen the glasses before, and the seller reveals he got them from his uncle Mike Esposito, who was a comic book inker. The seller also shows some artwork that his uncle did. Walt says the artwork could be worth a lot of money and offers to call in an expert. Robert Bruce looks at the artwork and recognizes one piece as a reproduction of the cover of Flash #177. The seller says his aunt has a lot more artwork that she wants to sell, and Robert recommends they call in an auction house. The seller says he's only in town a couple days, and he asks if the Secret Stash guys will help his aunt out for a commission. Walt doesn't want to take a commission, but after the seller suggests it, they agree to donate a portion of the proceeds to the Hurricane Sandy relief fund. Walt says his kids watch the same movie over and over again, and he asks the Secret Stash guys what was the first movie they saw multiple times. Ming says Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom, Mike says The Sting, and Bryan says Jaws. A customer comes in looking for the Loki Hot Toys figure. The customer says she collects Loki stuff. Walt asks why she picked a villain to collect, and the customer says the villains are always more interesting than the heroes. After some negotiation, Walt agrees to sell the Loki Hot Toys figure for $300. The Secret Stash guys go to the Mike Esposito auction, and they watch people bidding on the art. Before the auction, Robert Bruce estimated all the artwork might go for between $3,000 and $3,500. A seller brings a 1976 Fonzie Paper Doll still in the box to sell. The seller wants $100, but Walt only offers $50. After some negotiation, Walt agrees to buy the Fonzie Paper Doll for $55. Walt calls Mrs. Esposito to give her the news about how much they made at the auction. Walt tells Mrs. Esposito that the final tally was $21,867.50. Mrs. Esposito is delighted by the news.
