In the crossover, Simone brings together a pair of characters who are almost more concepts than individuals; during an interview at New York Comic Con, she told ComicBook.com that each of the characters was conceived as the "ideal" specimen of their respective gender when the character was first created.
“When hey asked me if I was interested in writing it, of course my first response was ‘hell yes,’” Simone said. “Being able to write Conan was exciting, but then you throw Wonder Woman in the mix again and I was like yes, I really want to do it….But to do something that’s never happened before? That is exciting.”
She added that artist Aaron Lorpesti was chosen because she knew he loved drawing barbarians and fantasy creatures from their previous work experience.
"I know a lot of people expected it to be a male versus female team-up, but it's not about that," Simone added.
