Arrow's sixth season is in full swing and while there have already been some major changes on The CW drama one constant are the flashbacks. But according to executive producer Marc Guggenheim the familiar storytelling device is itself getting a big twist.

As reported by TV Line, Guggenheim teased that with Oliver's history explored it's time for fans to get a look at Diggle's past outside of the military flashbacks audiences have seen in previous seasons.

"We are going to do character-centered flashbacks," Guggenheim said. "And we're very cognizant of the fact that we've never done a non-military flashback for Diggle. It's something we talk about a lot but we have to marry it to the right story."

That "right story" may have presented itself last week. At the end of the season's second episode Oliver stepped down as Green Arrow and turned the mantle over to Diggle and while Diggle accepted the role it's a transition that may have some issues. It was revealed in the same episode that Diggle is struggling with some physical -- and potentially emotional -- fallout from the events on Lian Yu. Diggle revealed to Black Canary that he didn't make it off the island unharmed as previously believed. Instead, he took shrapnel to the shoulder and it's left him with lasting injuries.

And Diggle isn't the only character fans will get a deeper look at this season through flashbacks. Arrow star Stephen Amell said at San Diego Comic-Con this year that Slade Wilson/Deathstroke would also be getting flashbacks, something Guggenheim confirmed.

"[There are] some really cool Slade Wilson flashbacks that I'm really excited about," Guggenheim said.

Fans won't have to wait too long to get those Deathstroke flashbacks, either. Guggenheim previously said in an interview with Collider that the flashbacks would be included in a two-part Deathstroke story arc set to run during the first half of the season.

"We're doing a cool two-parter where the flashbacks will be from Slade's perspective," Guggenheim said. "It's very much a Slade-Oliver two-hander."

Fans can watch these new, non-Oliver centric flashbacks when Arrow airs in its new time slot this season, Thursdays at 9/8c following Supernatural on The CW.
