Earlier in the week, we reported that there was an impressive new PlayStation 4 controller that was being made by the Netherlands-based team XQGaming. At the time, all that was known about the controller was that it would be based
The company moved quickly with their modifications and announcements, however, as a trailer that showcases the controller was published on Saturday.
As seen in the trailer, the company again reiterated their previous statements that over 50 hours of work went into the controllers, and the detail is evident after the big reveal. Gone are the rough-looking browns and golds that the previous photos showed, they've been replaced by the iconic green from the Alien franchise that's nestled in as detail amid
There's also quite a bit of texture that gives the controller its unique look. Alien arms curve from the shoulders of the controller down the grips, and the scratch marks that rake across the face buttons and the directional pad bring back the flash of green that's also seen towards the bottom of the grips in some ominous designs. These features don't go away in the dark either, as the lights go out several times during the trailer to show that certain parts of the controller will indeed light up.
The most recognizable feature of the controller by far takes up the entire touchpad as the alien head protrudes from the center above a bony-looking chest that surrounds the PS button in the middle. Having the horrific extension take up most of the center of the controller is certainly impressive, but the question of how gameplay and functionality will be affected by the modification still persists from the previous developments on the controller.
There's still no word as to how much it'll be, but it was first quoted by XQGaming with a price upwards of 1,500 pounds. That's already roughly $1,900, and it looks like that might not even be the highest price. May 18 was the date shown within the trailer, but it's unknown whether that is the full release date for the controller or simply a date that will bring more details.
