Injustice 2 Publisher Opens Studio Dedicated To Further Improving The Game’s Online Play

In recent years fans have, unfortunately, become accustomed to new fighting games launching with rocky, or downright broken, online features. Street Fighter V was a complete mess for months, and even Tekken 7, from the usually-reliable Bandai Namco, has suffered from its share of issues. Thankfully, Injustice 2 has been the exception to this frustrating rule.

Despite racking up big sales and a large playerbase, the Injustice 2 online experience has remained smooth and trouble free. It's an impressive turnaround for NetherRealm Studios, who have struggled with online modes in past games like Mortal Kombat X. Well, it seems like NetherRealm's parent company Warner Bros. Interactive is dedicated to making the Injustice 2 online experience even better.

The publisher has founded WB Games New York, a new studio dedicated entirely to supporting their online games, particularly Injustice 2. Apparently, the studio will be working on new cloud technology, which will allow NetherRealm to add new content to Injustice 2 in a more timely, seamless manner. Here's what Warner Bros. Interactive's executive vice president Steven Chiang had to say about the new studio:

"We understand the importance of expanding the connected communities of players, and with WB Games New York, we will have a strong foundation to grow our player connectivity with our digitally powered console and mobile games as well as live service gaming. Warner Bros. Interactive has enjoyed a successful history with utilizing new technology with many members of the WB Games New York team on some of our biggest games, and this will be continued as we work on several upcoming projects."

Honestly, I'd like to see more publishers take this approach. Considering how critical online play is to many titles these days, having a studio specifically dedicated to keeping the servers humming seems like a no-brainer, and yet, it's not something we see that often. Some other publishers (*cough*Ubisoft*cough*) should take notes.
