PlayStation Teases New Reveal
PlayStation is gearing up to reveal 'something new,' as teased in this short clip. Take a look at [...]
A New PlayStation Portable
Whatever is hidden beneath that veil looks pretty big, but that could just be a box, right? Anything can be in a box! We don't think this is very likely, but there's always a chance that Sony has decided to get back into the handheld space with a new PSP successor. It's been speculated and accepted pretty much across the board that the PSP line ends with the Vita, but that doesn't mean it has to be so. Think about it.
The PS Vita is still alive and well in Japan, and gets new game releases regularly. Even in the states we see some of the more popular games, especially digital titles, make their way to the Vita. There is so much nostalgia for the PSP, which turned out to be one of the best-selling handhelds of all time. Sony did a lot of things wrong with the Vita, but it also did a lot of things right.
A new portable platform could be just the ticket. Nintendo has proven that a powerful handheld console is something that everyone wants, and with a forward-thinking remote play feature that allows us to play our favorite PS4 games on the go, a new PSP could be huge.

I think it's too early for Sony to reveal the PS5, and there's not enough fanfare. If Sony were going to reveal a new console, we'd expect that to happen at E3 or the PlayStation Experience; maybe even the Tokyo Game Show. A random teaser in tweet isn't the way the PS5 hype train gets moving, in my opinion, but there's a chance that this is only the beginning.
If that veil lifts and it reveals a giant '5' with a countdown timer, that could change everything. That would also be a genius move on Sony's part, because they wouldn't even have to reveal the console to get everyone talking. Even if the countdown ended a couple of months from now, that would be enough to steal Microsoft's thunder and get the entire industry talking about Sony's next console.

I feel like this is the most likely scenario. Under that red veil I expect to see a new form of the PS4 Pro, or else a PS4 Pro bundle to announce a price cut for the holiday season. With the revelation that the PS4 Pro's GPU can take advantage of rapid packed math to narrow the power gap between the Pro and Xbox One X, we're expecting the PS4 Pro to "become more powerful" than ever in the coming months.
If developers intentionally take advantage of the benefits offered by AMD's rapid packed math tech, then the Pro will suddenly become a very realistic contender against the Xbox One X in terms of actual performance -- not in raw power, but in performance.
If Sony plays its cards right, it will make sure we all understand what rapid packed math can do on the PS4, and it will announce a few new exclusives that take advantage of the performance jump offered by the technology. This, along with a price reduction, is the perfect one-two punch.
So what do you think we'll see revealed? What does Sony have under that red veil?
