The idea of a Red Dead Redemption 2 beta sounds pretty good right now, if only to give us the opportunity to check the game out before its spring 2018 release. That said, Rockstar Games hasn't announced any plans to release a beta, though that apparently hasn't stopped some savvy users from setting up a fake one in the hopes of phishing private data from users.

According to EGMNow, this Twitter account was recently created, with someone advertising beta invites for Rockstar Games' upcoming sequel, and we're pretty sure some avid gamers have already pounced on the offer. But the thing is, it's not legit, and EGM managed to point out some of its flaws.

First off, the open beta typeface that's used with the page actually comes from the one used with Destiny 2 recently, so it almost looks like it's fake right off the bat – even though some gamers may have missed that. But the site went one step further, noting that the source location of the page is Queens, New York – and Rockstar Games doesn't have any sort of office or studio around that area.

There's also no official information or link showing any kind of Rockstar resources, nor anything that mentions its official site or even a legitimate Red Dead Redemption 2 page.

On top of that, the site also noted that Rockstar isn't the kind of company that does open betas for its games. And it really doesn't. Instead, it takes its time with developing them, and releases them when they're damn good and ready. Thus, the recent delay for Red Dead Redemption 2 from its fall 2017 release to sometime in early 2018.

So, yeah. If you see any sort of email or online invites indicating that someone has early access to Red Dead Redemption 2 for you, don't believe the hype, because it's definitely a scam. As for when you'll be able to play the game, hey, we're waiting just like you – but there's no reason to lose your private information over it.

Red Dead Redemption 2 releases next spring for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
