Script For The Man From UNCLE Sequel Begins Development

Even though The Man From UNCLE's rocky box office performance in 2015 spelled out an uncertain future for the movie adaptation of Sam Rolfe’s television series, actor Armie Hammer has revealed that the script for a sequel is currently in development.

Lionel Wigram, who served as a co-writer for the first film, is tasked with developing the script for the follow up movie according to Hammer.

“I called Lionel Wigram, the producer of the movie, and he and Guy produced it and wrote it all together. I was like, ‘Dude, what’s the deal? I get asked about this s*** all the time. Can you just write a sequel?’” Hammer told Slash Film. “He was like, ‘You know what? Yeah, f*** it, I’ll do it. Sure, I’ll write a sequel.’”

Hammer then went on to say that a studio hasn’t picked up the movie yet, as he told Wigram if he wrote a script, he was “sure they can get one made.”

“I was like, ‘If you write one, I’m sure we can get one made,’ so who knows? Today is the first day I’ve actually told anyone that story,” reflected Hammer. “I only told one other person who asked. Apparently, the sequel is being written right now. No pressure, Lionel!”

In 2015’s The Man From UNCLE, Hammer played Illya Kuryakin, a Russian who teams up with thief-turned-CIA agent Napoleon Solo (Henry Cavill) to work for an international espionage organization.
