As promised, Chewbacca Mom Candace Payne finally got to meet the real Chewbacca in person.

At the recent Dallas Fan Expo, Payne got to meet Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew, alongside her family. Mayhew posted some pictures of the backstage meet and greet on his Twitter account, including one shot that shows him autographing one of the Chewbacca masks that started this whole sensation. He captioned it with: "Lovely meeting @candacepayne for the first time in person today!"

He posted a second shot of their actual first meeting, which took place on stage, saying: "We're such happy chewbaccas! Here's the moment we met. @candacepayne @thewookieeroars"


Mayhew surprised Payne with an invitation to the Expo to meet him during her appearance on The Late Late show with James Corden. Corden read the note on air, which said: "It says, Candace, you are an inspiration. Your attitude and lovely message really resonates and with spreading the good word of Star Wars with a heart, well, it's so much of why we do what we do. I'd love to get to meet you and your family in person. In two weeks we have the Dallas Fan Expo in your hometown and my hometown. I have acquired four VIP passes for you and your family to come to the show. I've also set up a private meet and greet so we can catch up while you're there. All my love, Peter."
