Alan Tudyk has done a lot of voice acting, especially with Disney, appearing in films and animated series on a regular basis throughout his career. In Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, however, he's going the extra step, having done both the motion capture for the character of K-2SO and his voiceover work. That means the actor was out on set, covered in little mocap balls, getting to act out the part of the mysterious Imperial droid turned Rebel.

"He has no filter," Tudyk teased to EW in his first major interview about the character. He had a line in mind to demonstrate, but couldn't divulge it - emblematic of the difference between him and his character. "I can't say what I want to say, but Kaytoo can say what he wants. He can say insulting things very casually if he thinks they're true."

Kaytoo is "unflappable," he said, not like the "f***ing neurotic mess" of C-3PO, the classic protocol droid who has been a mainstay throughout the Star Wars saga. The 7-foot-1-inch droid, an Imperial security droid, will "enforce the sh** out of you" if you get in his way, Tudyk said with a laugh. He implies that Kaytoo joins the Rebellion not out of reprogramming, but out of freedom.

Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna, and Kaytoo are partners, after Andor cleared Imperial programming out of the droid. "They've been around. They've been together for awhile, a couple of years," he teased. "He loves Cassian because he freed him." Tudyk describes the bond as "paternal" thanks to Cassian's freeing efforts. To contrast the droid, there will be other K-2 droids seen in the film.

As for how he'll sound, perhaps we'll find out tomorrow during the new trailer. Tudyk only teased that he has a British accent, something he chose for the character based on the prevalence of the accent amongst Imperials in past films.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters December 16, 2016. A new trailer debuts tomorrow.
