The next chapter in the Star Wars franchise, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, is set to hit theaters this year. But when it debuts, it will apparently include very little of a certain Star Wars staple.
Rian Johnson, who is directing the film, recently took to Twitter to reveal that The Last Jedi will only have a dozen 'wipe' transitions, a technique that has been used in virtually every Star Wars film (aside from last year's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story).
The most wipe transitions in a SW movie was Ep 1, with 55.

Johnson, who is currently working on The Last Jedi's post production, first brought up the infamous transition with a Twitter poll earlier this week.

He then revealed the poll's answer, saying that Empire Strikes Back had the most of the three films listed, with 42 transitions.

With numbers like that, The Last Jedi's twelve transitions might seem like a measly number. But it seems about on par with the rest of the sequel trilogy, as 2015's The Force Awakens only had fourteen wipe transitions.
Although The Last Jedi won't be including that particular trope, it appears to already be going above and beyond to honor the previous Star Wars installments. Johnson recently reassured fans that the film will be as intense as the original trilogy, and that it will be taking plenty of narrative risks, even though its general plot might seem similar to Empire Strikes Back.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters December 15th, 2017.
