A movie focusing on the adventures of the young Han Solo might seem like a fun, swashbuckling affair, but the director is teasing some bleak scenes in the film.
Ron Howard’s latest tease on social media features some dusty destruction, but it’s his caption that hints at the state of the galaxy in the Star Wars spinoff.

It’s hard to make out what exactly is in the photo with all of the dust and fog in the air, but there appears to be a couple of actors wearing helmets next to some of the crew. They could be Imperial officers or Mandalorians or even the Death Troopers, but it’s not clear enough to say for certain.
Given Han Solo’s profession as a smuggler, he’s likely to be at odds with the authorities as he sneaks illegal goods to various clients. Unfortunately, the Empire is nearly at the height of its power in the film.
Set before the events of A New Hope, the Han Solo spinoff will take place after the Emperor has risen to power. Though the Senate is dissolved later in the timeline, they don’t have much power due to Palpatine’s emergency powers and massive Imperial army.
The movie will likely show how the regime exerts control on the galaxy, with Solo being paid to smuggle items to criminals like Jabba the Hutt.
Photos from the movie’s set have shown an Imperial presence, meaning Solo is likely to get into a gunfight or two with some Stormtroopers.
Fans are still waiting for the film’s first trailer, which might debut in theaters alongside Star Wars: The Last Jedi in December. Hopefully we find out soon, along with the film’s official title.
The untitled Han Solo movie is set to hit theaters May 25, 2018.
