Tonight’s episode of Arrow revolved around a bio-medical chip implanted in Felicity’s spine to help her walk again after a paralyzing injury earlier in the season. The episode’s villain, Brie Larvan, is herself at risk for paralysis and had hoped to get her hands on the device.

Of course, no such device exists in the real world — something that had raised some eyebrows when the idea came to Arrow just weeks after Felicity found herself in a wheelchair.

The Foundation, of course, is named for beloved actor Christopher Reeve, who played Superman in four movies during the ’70s and ’80s. A few years before he passed away, Reeve was in a horseback accident which left him paralyzed from the neck down. As the one of the most visible public figures with such paralysis, he spent the rest of his life advocating for advances in medicine to help those with similar conditions.
