After only one season, the ABC Television Network has pulled the plug on The Muppets.

In September 2015, The Muppets returned to prime time with a contemporary, documentary-style show in the same vein of The Office and Parks and Rec.. The premiere brought in 9 million viewers, but by the time the 16th and final episode aired on March 1, 2016, only 2.73 million viewers tuned in to watch.

Aside from the week-to-week plummet in ratings, The Muppets seemed destined to be cancelled before the new year. There were reports that the network wasn’t pleased with the direction of the grown-up reboot, and In November, executive producer and showrunner Bob Kushell exited the series.

The Muppets return to prime time with a contemporary, documentary-style show thatโ€”for the first time everโ€”will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, break-ups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires; a more adult Muppet show, for kids of all ages.
